New England Patriots 2022 season recap

Mac Jones experienced quite the rollercoaster ride in the previous season. The Alabama standout didn’t kick off the season in stellar fashion, resulting in fervent calls from Patriots fans for backup Bailey Zappe to step in. Such clamoring is seldom an auspicious sign for someone expected to be the franchise quarterback. Jones, however, managed to recover, finishing the season on a relatively positive note, though it was not enough to secure a playoff berth for New England. It’s almost surreal how distant the Tom Brady era now feels.

Despite the ups and downs, there were bright spots to savor. New England’s cornerback group elevated itself to a coveted top-10 rank in the league, and Rhamondre Stevenson emerged as the Patriots’ primary running back, providing a ray of optimism amidst the challenges.

New England Patriots 2023 NFL season predictions

The Patriots briefly flirted with the idea of acquiring DeAndre Hopkins, but alas, fortune favored the Titans, and Hopkins found his new home there. Consequently, New England, and Mac Jones in particular, are once again faced with the challenge of dealing with what appears to be a perennial Achilles’ heel: their receiving corps. In the previous season, Jones struggled to establish any meaningful chemistry with his wideouts, with Jakobi Meyers being the notable exception. However, now that Meyers has moved on to the Raiders, the Patriots must swiftly adapt and cultivate new connections in the passing game. While New England’s defense promises to remain stalwart, the pivotal question revolves around whether Mac Jones can synchronize with his receivers.

With that in mind, here are a couple of predictions related to the New England Patriots for the upcoming season.

Best bet: New England Patriots Over 6.5 Wins (-140)

The path ahead for the New England Patriots in the 2023 season is undeniably fraught with challenges—We don’t use the term “treacherous” lightly here. Their schedule has been deemed the toughest in the NFL, explaining the relatively low win total expectations. However, We’re inclined to believe that this line is somewhat conservative. New England is coming off an 8-9 season where they displayed glimpses of potential, and our optimism for their 2023 season remains steadfast.

While it’s reasonable to anticipate losses against formidable opponents like the Bills, Chiefs, Eagles, and Chargers, there are winnable matchups on the horizon against teams like the Commanders, Broncos, Saints, Colts, Giants, Steelers, and Raiders. While We don’t envision the Patriots as playoff contenders, they do stand as an above-average team operating in the competitive AFC East. Securing 7 wins seems well within reach for New England in the upcoming 2023 campaign.

New England Patriots season record prediction: 7-9

Indeed, the Patriots’ season ahead holds a wide range of possibilities, spanning from 6 wins to 8 wins. If they follow a pattern of losing games they’re expected to and stumbling in contests they should win, a 6-win outcome is plausible. However, the path to 7 or 8 wins lies in winning the crucial matchups. Last season’s experiences, like the heartbreakers against the Bengals and Raiders, where games slipped away in the final minutes, illustrate the potential for a different narrative.

While the schedule for the upcoming season is undeniably tougher, it doesn’t rule out the possibility of achieving 7 wins. The AFC East may be a formidable division, but there’s still room for the Patriots to close the season with a respectable 7-9 record, provided they navigate the challenges and capitalize on the right opportunities.
