NFL Picks and Parlay Week 1: Expert Bets

|

Welcome to the Bet Club’s coverage of the 2023 NFL Football season. As NFL Football makes its triumphant return, we’re diving deep into the action with expert insights and predictions for Week 1. The defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs kick off the new season at home against the Detroit Lions at 8:20 pm ET. We’ve also got Lions vs. Chiefs predictions for the marquee matchup. Here’s a key stat: The Lions have seen their last 11 season openers go over the total. Additionally, we’ve thoroughly analyzed the lineups and matchups for Saturday’s games, offering our best picks and parlay for the opening weekend of the 2023 NFL season.

Week 1: NFL Picks and Parlay

NFL Pick_JAX Jaguars vs. IND Colts: Point Spread JAX Jaguars -5.0

Week 3 of the NFL preseason saw me locking in Jaguars -4 for their Week 1 clash against the Colts as part of my initial predictions. However, within just one week, things have evolved, and Jacksonville is now a 5-point favorite at nearly every sportsbook. This adjustment doesn’t come as a surprise, considering my original projection had the Jags as -5.5 favorites. During the preseason, the Jaguars demonstrated remarkable efficiency, going 3-0 while averaging 28 points and 408.67 yards of offense per game. With Trevor Lawrence poised to take the reins and a well-functioning offense, the outlook is promising. Last season, Lawrence led the Jags to a second-round playoff matchup with the Chiefs, displaying flashes of brilliance even without Travis Etienne and Calvin Ridley.

On the other side, Indianapolis has embraced a new era with one of the NFL’s youngest rosters. Their 1st-round pick, Anthony Richardson, showed some growing pains during the preseason, particularly with accuracy. With Richardson in a quarterback competition and limited offensive weapons, the Colts’ strength primarily lies in their defense. While the defense may keep them competitive, the Jaguars, as Deion Sanders emphasized, are the team to watch now.

NFL Pick_TEN Titans vs. NO Saints: Point Spread NO Saints -3.0

The New Orleans Saints have undergone significant changes this offseason, notably with Derek Carr taking over at quarterback. Carr is expected to play with tremendous determination and a desire to prove himself this season, especially in the NFC South, where opportunities abound. The Titans, on the other hand, appear to be grappling with uncertainty, particularly regarding their quarterback situation. Surprisingly, they’ve chosen to stick with Ryan Tannehill over their two talented young quarterbacks. Additionally, their offensive line, a weak point last season, has not seen significant improvement. Facing the Saints, who boast a formidable pass-rush and a pass-rush ranking in the top 5 in the NFL, Tannehill could face considerable challenges.

With homefield advantage, it’s surprising that the Saints are only favored by a field goal. Derek Carr and a healthy Michael Thomas at wide receiver should help the Saints’ offense thrive. Anticipating a strong season for the Saints, I’m confident in taking them to win and cover the spread.

NFL Pick_MIA Dolphins vs. LA Chargers: Point Spread LA Chargers -3.0

Week 1 brings a clash of playoff hopefuls as the Miami Dolphins travel to LA to face the Chargers. Both Justin Herbert and Tua Tagovailoa, from the same draft class, aim to lead their teams to a successful start. In this matchup, I’m leaning toward the LA Chargers. With Justin Herbert under center and new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, the Chargers enter the season with lofty aspirations. After signing Herbert to a seven-year contract, Los Angeles is eager to shine in front of their home crowd. Herbert threw for 367 yards against the Dolphins last season, and with weapons like Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, I anticipate a strong offensive showing. Austin Ekeler is poised for another stellar season.

Defensively, the Chargers addressed their run-stopping weakness by signing Eric Hendricks in the offseason. With stars like Derwin James and JC Jackson in the secondary and Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa rushing the passer, the Chargers are well-equipped to handle the Dolphins’ threats. My prediction is a Chargers win by at least a field goal.
