Pittsburgh Steelers odds, season predictions and best NFL futures bets Guide 2023

Welcome to The Bet Club NFL Pittsburgh Steelers betting guide for 2023.

Pittsburgh Steelers’ head coach, Mike Tomlin, defied the skeptics and extended his remarkable streak of never presiding over a losing season to an astonishing 16 seasons last year. However, in the face of the AFC North’s strength and the overall competitiveness of the conference, he faces a significant challenge in maintaining that streak.

In 2019, the Steelers came perilously close to breaking that record with an 8-8 season. Over the past two years, they’ve posted records of 9-7-1 and 9-8, respectively. Their incredible rebound from a 2-6 start in Kenny Pickett’s rookie season allowed them to keep the streak alive, securing a third-place finish in a highly competitive division. However, it’s undeniable that a finishing-position trend of 1-2-3 will be quite challenging to reverse.

While the Steelers find themselves at the bottom of the odds for the AFC North, this doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t be competitive enough to secure victories against teams from less challenging divisions. Let’s now take a closer look at the odds and the most promising bets to consider for the upcoming Pittsburgh Steelers’ season.

Pittsburgh Steelers 2022 season recap

The Steelers’ 2022 season witnessed a bit of bye-week magic that helped turn things around, especially during Kenny Pickett’s rookie year. The season began somewhat predictably, with an unexpected Week 1 overtime victory over the Bengals. However, they struggled to secure another win in the first half, managing only a narrow 2-point victory over the Bucs.

Everything changed after their Week 9 bye. The Steelers embarked on an impressive 7-2 run to close out the season with a respectable 9-8 record. Notably, their only second-half losses were against division rivals, the Bengals and Ravens. This resurgence demonstrated once again that Mike Tomlin’s team remains a formidable opponent for any adversary, even though reaching the same heights as the Ben Roethlisberger era may still be a distant goal.

Pittsburgh Steelers 2023 NFL season predictions

The Steelers possess a significant advantage over many NFL teams with their coach, Mike Tomlin, who is renowned for never fielding a disorganized or unmotivated squad. Tomlin consistently maximizes the potential of his roster. However, it’s arguable that the talent at his disposal doesn’t quite measure up to the resources of their divisional and conference rivals.

While there is promising young talent on the team that should develop, it’s challenging to envision the Steelers keeping pace with the Bengals, Ravens, and the potentially strengthening Browns in the highly competitive AFC North.

With this context in mind, here are some predictions related to the upcoming Steelers’ season.

Best bet: Pittsburgh Steelers not to make the playoffs (-155)

As we witnessed last season, the Steelers have the ability to maintain Mike Tomlin’s streak of avoiding a sub-.500 season, but even achieving that may prove challenging this year. The team does have some notable positives in the form of their young offensive stars, including Najee Harris, George Pickens, and Pat Freiermuth. If Kenny Pickett continues to progress, he can also be added to that list. However, there have been significant departures in other key areas of the team.

Notably, four of the Steelers’ top six tacklers from last season—Myles Jack, Devin Bush, Robert Spillane, and Terrell Edmunds—have left the team, along with key cornerback Cam Sutton. Additionally, despite Pickett’s potential improvement, there’s likely to be a substantial gap between him and the three other quarterbacks in the division (Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Deshaun Watson) if everyone is in good health.

In the grand scheme of things, the odds are stacked against the Steelers this time around. It’s challenging to envision them even contending for a playoff spot, let alone securing one.

Pittsburgh Steelers season record prediction: 7-10

Given the various factors outlined, it’s becoming increasingly likely that Mike Tomlin may be on the verge of experiencing his first losing season, and this could potentially occur during the upcoming season. A 7-10 record, while not far from their previous season’s outcome, seems within reach given the challenges they face.

Their schedule doesn’t offer many easy home games this year, with the Cardinals game standing out as a solid chance for a win. Additionally, hosting formidable opponents like the 49ers, Jaguars, Packers, Titans, and Patriots, in addition to their division rivals, makes for a tough road ahead for the Steelers. All of these elements combined make it a daunting task for them to avoid their first losing season under Tomlin’s leadership.
